Government, Health & Welfare Committee

Reviews and develops legislation related to state government operations, public health programs, and social welfare services that support the wellbeing of Yap's communities.

This committee has jurisdiction over matters affecting how state government functions and how Yap State provides essential health and social services to its citizens. The committee examines proposed legislation, conducts oversight of relevant government agencies, and works to ensure programs effectively serve public needs.

In the area of government operations, the committee reviews bills related to state administration, civil service, government efficiency, and the organization and functions of state departments and agencies. This includes examining how government resources are used and whether state operations serve the public effectively.

On health matters, the committee addresses public health policy, healthcare services and facilities, disease prevention programs, environmental health, and health workforce development. The committee works to ensure Yap residents have access to quality healthcare and that public health challenges are addressed proactively.

Regarding welfare and social services, the committee considers legislation affecting vulnerable populations, social assistance programs, disability services, senior citizen support, and other safety net programs that help Yap families in need.

The committee holds public hearings on important issues within its jurisdiction, inviting testimony from government officials, healthcare professionals, social service providers, and community members. These hearings help ensure legislation reflects real-world needs and practical considerations.

Committee meetings are open to the public unless discussing matters requiring confidentiality. Meeting schedules and agendas are posted in advance on this website and at the Legislature building.
