Resource, Education and Development Committee

Reviews and develops legislation related to natural resource management, educational programs and institutions, and economic development initiatives that shape Yap State's future prosperity and sustainability.

This committee has jurisdiction over matters affecting Yap’s natural resources, educational system, and economic growth. The committee examines proposed legislation, provides oversight of relevant agencies and programs, and works to balance development with the preservation of Yap’s cultural heritage and environment.

In the area of natural resources, the committee addresses fisheries management, marine conservation, forestry, agriculture, environmental protection, and sustainable use of Yap’s land and ocean resources. The committee works to ensure these vital resources are managed responsibly for current and future generations while supporting livelihoods that depend on them.

On education matters, the committee reviews legislation affecting public schools, early childhood education, vocational training, scholarship programs, educational facilities, and teacher development. The committee strives to ensure all Yap children have access to quality education that prepares them for success while honoring traditional knowledge and cultural values.

Regarding economic development, the committee considers bills related to business development, tourism, infrastructure projects, workforce training, investment promotion, and initiatives that create economic opportunities for Yap residents. The committee seeks to foster sustainable economic growth that benefits local communities.

The committee holds public hearings on important issues within its jurisdiction, inviting testimony from educators, business leaders, resource managers, community organizations, and citizens. These hearings ensure diverse perspectives inform legislative decisions.

Committee meetings are open to the public unless discussing matters requiring confidentiality. Meeting schedules and agendas are posted in advance on this website and at the Legislature building.
