Requesting the President of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Speaker from the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to seriously undertake efforts to make more accessible the Asian, European Union and South Pacific markets for the people and private sector of the Federated States of Micronesia
WHEREAS, in the current fluctuating market and tariffs imposed in the predominantly United States market that are the mainstay of the private sector in the Federated States of Micronesia and such tariffs and the US market environment has affected, is affecting and will continue to affect and undermine our efforts in economic stability; and
WHEREAS, the Asian and South Pacific markets are closer geographically and socially and efforts should be made to cultivate shipping and trade agreements with respective countries in these regions; and
WHEREAS, the recent efforts by the FSM National Government has also demonstrated the willingness to engage in trade with the European Union, and associated countries, and further emphasizes the need to have a free, open market available to our people and private sector; and
BE IT RESOLVED by the Eleventh Legislature of the State of Yap, Third Regular Session, 2025 that the Legislature hereby requests the President of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Speaker from the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to seriously undertake efforts to make more accessible the Asian, European Union and South Pacific markets for the people and private sector of the Federated States of Micronesia; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of Yap is urging and encouraging the executive and legislative leaderships of the State of Chuuk, the State of Pohnpei and the State of Kosrae to work together, using any means possible, in this overall effort for the benefit of our private sector, our people and the stability of our economy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Governor of the State of Chuuk, the Speaker and President in the Chuuk State Legislature, the Governor of the State of Pohnpei, the Speaker of the Pohnpei State Legislature, the Governor of the State of Kosrae, the Speaker of the Kosrae State Legislature, the Governor of the State of Yap, the Director of the Yap State Department of Resources and Development, the Director of the Yap State Office of Planning and Budget, the Chairman of the Council of Pilung and the Chairman of the Council of Tamol
