WHEREAS, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 59, having been born on October 15, 1965; and

WHEREAS, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun had served the people of the State of Yap for thirty-six years; and

WHEREAS, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun completed his elementary education from St. Mary’s School in 1978 before attending Xavier High School where he graduated in 1982 before attending Creighton University until 1987 and in the ensuing years have gone through programs including but not limited to the Yap State Bar Trial Counselor’s and UC-Chico; and

WHEREAS, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun began his services to the people of the State of Yap in 1987 as a teacher at St. Mary’s School until 1989, when he was hired at the Office of the Attorney General as Investigator and Misdemeanor Prosecutor until 1992, when he moved to the Office of the Public Defender where he spent the next eight years before working again at the Attorney General’s Office in different capacities; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun was appointed as Associate Justice in the Yap State Court where he served the people with unwavering integrity and oftentimes witty sagacity, until his untimely and sad passing; and

WHEREAS, the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun had made many contributions to the State of Yap in his role as an honored and respected member of the legal community, as a distinguished leader in government, as well as his numerous contributions to community and village activities and events, and the residents of the State of Yap have suffered a great loss and will always miss his steadfast dedication, his resolute principles and his determined commitment to serving the people and State of Yap; and

WHEREAS, the untimely passing of the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun has bereaved his family, relatives, friends, and the people of the State of Yap; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Eleventh Legislature of the State of Yap, Third Regular Session, 2025, that this Legislature hereby expresses its deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun for his untimely passing; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of the late Honorable Jonathan M. Tun; the Governor of the State of Yap; the Chief Justice of the State Court of Yap; the Chairman of the Council of Pilung; and the Chairman of the Council of Tamol.
