Respectfully requesting the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, through the respective and appropriate FSM line departments and agencies, to initiate, engage in dialogue, negotiate and eventually enter into agreement with the People’s Republic of China for the eligibility of citizens in the Federated States of Micronesia for free-visa programs or other such waivers when traveling to China

WHEREAS, more and more citizens and corporations in the FSM are traveling to China for various purposes, including but not limited to trade, medical, education and training; and

WHEREAS, the diplomatic ties between the Federated States of Micronesia and the People’s Republic of China have lasted for more than three decades with the FSM finally establishing its presence with the opening of an Embassy in Beijing, China; and

WHEREAS, there are numerous visa-free programs available to other countries, which the FSM is not included, and visa waivers would be very beneficial to the citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Eleventh Legislature of the State of Yap, Third Regular Session, 2025 that the Legislature hereby respectfully requests the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, through the respective and appropriate FSM line departments and agencies, to initiate, engage in dialogue, negotiate and eventually enter into agreement with the People’s Republic of China for the eligibility of citizens in the Federated States of Micronesia for free-visa programs or other such waivers when traveling to China; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Yap Congressional Delegation, the Governor of the State of Yap, the Chairman of the Council of Pilung and the Chairman of the Council of Tamol.
